“It was only after leaving art school that I took art seriously. Mainly out of the fear that if I didn’t, I would lose it all,” says Arbind Sinha, a twenty-one-year-old artist from Tripura, India. His work puts more focus on the technique, rather than the storytelling. Figurative art and portraiture make up for more than half of his work.
“I dropped out art-school, and at this stage, I need to stress more on my craft than any story I’d like to tell. I believe in approaching things systematically rather than jumping on to abstraction while my foundation isn’t firm. More or less, people share same kind of feelings throughout their lives but what makes us artists different from each other is our unique craft, our technique, and of course the environment wherein we exist. I’m taking things slow & constantly observing. Values and forms are major inspirations behind my work. Every time I decide to start a piece, there’s no clear thought as to what I want to accomplish. I leave it to my subconscious and let my intuition flow. I don’t mistake it for lack of confidence because the whole time, I’m focused on the technique of applying the media which I think is important to any visual artist.”
