Sahaya: Weaving Realms of Color, Spirit, and Texture

Born in New Delhi to a Haryanvi mother and a Rajasthani father, Sahaya embodies a fusion of cultural and spiritual influences that permeate her multidisciplinary practice. A painter, musician, designer, and healer, she has built a career that defies traditional boundaries, creating mystical worlds where art becomes a medium for healing and introspection.

Her artistic journey began in 2009, with her first canvas painted from the 15th floor of a Mumbai condo. She pursued her formal education at Lasalle College of the Arts in Singapore, where her love for abstract art flourished. Her practice has since evolved into a deeply personal exploration of spirituality, psychology, and the transformative power of art. Drawing inspiration from Indian spiritual texts, Western occultism, and her life experiences, Sahaya’s work is universal.

As a colorist and Pranic healer, Sahaya channels her vibrant energies onto canvas and paper. Her works often feature oil, enamel, acrylic, spray paint, and textiles, creating layered compositions that resonate with spiritual and emotional depth. She refers to her process as “The Synchronicity of Colour,” where hues interact to evoke physiological and transformative effects on the viewer. Her paintings frequently reveal unintentional figures, creatures, and amorphous landscapes, inviting audiences into hypnotic, shape-shifting realms.

Sahaya’s most recent explorations include The Drapescape Abstracts (2018–2024), where she repurposes fragments of old garments into her canvases. This upcycling process serves as both a metaphor for transformation and a tactile element in her storytelling. From deconstructed textiles to industrial lacquered surfaces, her pieces bridge the material and the metaphysical.

The series Ajrakh Fustats draws from historical textile traditions and excavation sites, while other works like Indigo Child and Kailash in Giverny combine spiritual motifs with personal narratives.
Her studio practice reflects her belief in the power of well-calibrated spaces. Sahaya’s workspace is a meditative haven where she develops her ideas, blending elements of light, sound, and texture to enhance her creative rhythms. Whether working on large-scale paintings or designing pocket squares and scarves under her label Turpentine, Sahaya imbues each project with her vibrant, multidimensional ethos.

For Sahaya, art is a way to align with authenticity and come home to oneself. She approaches her practice with gratitude and curiosity, continuously challenging herself to shed imposter syndrome and embrace her unique voice. As she moves into 2025, Sahaya plans to deepen her engagement with music, design, and art, creating works that further her mission to make esoteric knowledge accessible and to transform the ordinary into the extraordinary.
