Quarantimes by Mahima Jain.

Mahima, a communication designer by education is currently working as a User Experience Designer. Her illustration series ‘Quarantimes’ is something she did as a creative exercise/outlet during the quarantine period. The series of six illustrations represent the inner turmoil and rapid mood swings of feeling uncertainly stuck in limbo at a point to being hopeful and enjoying a home-cooked meal in another.

“This series of illustrations is more like a journal expressing the day to day feelings of being locked up during quarantine. With the world being in turmoil our inner selves are also facing major ups and downs. Each Illustration is an attempt to pictorially represent a mood, be it feeling stuck in limbo, immersed in digital content, vulnerable, hopeful, or enjoying a home-cooked meal. Each illustration started with me jotting down a feeling and then sketching various representations of it around a character. Recently I’ve been dabbling in 3D and playing around with lighting and three-dimensional compositions. The idea was to compose the illustration while restricting myself to using basic shapes. This led to some creative decision making and thinking of how I could achieve the form I desired using basic polygons. I force myself to maintain an ‘idea journal’ where I pen down my feelings and ideas without filtering them down the funnel of rationality. Being consistent with making and sharing my work and not being too harsh towards it is something I continually work on.”
