Sarthak Talreja is a 22 years old aspiring artist spending his time between New Delhi & Mumbai, India. He is currently pursuing a degree in visual art from Mumbai. Sarthak’s work revolves around a gestural approach related to what his subject is, trying to convey modern-day issues faced by individuals.
His latest work titled ‘Beautiful’ is based on body positivity. “Social media and the media itself has a lot of influential take on what we think of ourselves. I believe that from an early age there is a huge amount of pressure on what we need to look like and there is a specific preferred body type that is approved among our peers and in general. People judge others based on how they and their bodies look in the pictures they post. For this reason, people often present themselves as if they were ‘perfect’. Because “what we convey to others is a matter of what we choose to share in order to make a good impression and what we unintentionally reveal as a byproduct of who we are and how we react to others” (Boyd, 2015). As an artist, if you sense that something is wrong going on or happened around you, and you choose not to be expressive about it in any manner.. you’re dead weight to the society.”
